We are Michigan State University students, alumni, past students and community members. We have organized ourselves to support and advocate for solidarity with survivors and victims of sexual and relationship violence.
Consent Workshops- Consent Banners- George Will Protests- Sexual Assault Townhall- Plus more!
Our story begins in August of 2014. Two housemates started talking about sex and relationships and one of them mentioned they had created a workshop that allowed for people to talk about consent through activities and small group discussion. A consent workshop! Through their friendship and exposure to a lot of zines, the other housemate soon found out that there are a plethora of resources on consent and how to create your own consent workshops.
No need to reinvent the wheel! The workshop is now available for student groups, campus neighborhoods, cooperative houses and friend groups. Contact us or visit the workshops tab for more information.
The red and white "We Use Consent Here" banners came next. Some members of CLIT identify with a larger umbrella organization called the Michigan Student Power Network. On November 13th, 2014 there was a coordinated event across a number of Michigan universities, Michigan Students' Day of Power. One of the MSU specific actions was to mass distribute banners to MSU off-campus and on-campus students for their homes, apartments, dorms and residence halls. We've distributed over 300 banners- potentially reaching over 5,000 students-based on info we collected from students who came to pick up banners! There are also some E.L. bars that have put up the banners! #SpartansNeedConsent
